Butterflies Fly Free at EMS
May 3rd, 2024
In the final quarter of the school year, four of Landmark School's elementary classes studied life cycles. Some would argue that there is no better way to observe this phenomenon than by fostering caterpillars into butterflies. Students and their teachers received painted lady caterpillar babies, watched them eat and grow, and then finally after they got back from April break, students were surprised and excited to see that their caterpillars had each formed a chrysalis! After a few days of patiently watching and waiting, the butterflies began to hatch.
Teacher Meg Arnio said, "One of the best parts of the experience was getting to see how excited the kids were to see the different stages of a life cycle and how there are so many changes that happen. Students in my class named their caterpillars and enjoyed watching how they changed each day. The excitement on their faces when we began to see the butterflies hatching was infectious and amazing!" Thank you Mrs. Lang for the photos.
