A Note from Claire Sullivan
Head of Elementary•Middle School
Septentrio, Meridies, Oriens, Occidens—the four cardinal directions—form the names of the four Houses at EMS. Every student and faculty/staff member belongs to one, creating a sense of identity and connection across our campus. We chose these directional names because they reflect what our program does best: guiding and supporting students on their unique academic journeys. At EMS, learners are explorers, innovators, and creators, charting their own course with the help of a responsive and individualized curriculum.
As a school deeply rooted in language, we don’t shy away from complex or unfamiliar terms. Instead, we embrace them. The use of Latin house names reflects our reverence for the origins and intricacies of English—a value evident in every classroom and tutorial one would come across. Each House becomes more than just a label; it’s a team, a compass, and a point of pride within the vibrant EMS community.
