Post-Secondary Options
While Landmark offers students a college-preparatory program, we realize college is not for everyone. Our guidance office individualizes the transition process to make sure each student is exposed to and understands their post-secondary options and chooses the best path for their learning style and goals. Students are counseled on the following options.
Two-Year College
- There are a variety of two-year public and private schools.
- Many two-year public schools (community colleges) offer open admissions.
- Good opportunity for those who are not ready for the demands of a four-year college.
- Students earn a Associates of Arts degree.
- Can transfer to a four-year school.
- Many schools offer some support for students with language-based learning disabilities.
- Usually costs less than a four-year college.
- Some schools provide student housing, though most typically do not provide housing.
Gap Year
- Growing number of programs offer travel or internship experience.
- Opportunity for students who are not ready for college or need more time.
- Many students looking at Gap Year programs will also apply to college and defer admissions.
- Attend the Gap Year Fair to learn more about opportunities.
Business, Trade, or Technical Programs
- Programs available at private schools, for-profit schools, and community colleges
- Offers practical training for specific skills,
- Includes training in construction, health occupations, travel and tourism, as well as many other areas
- Be sure to learn about job-placement services,
- Length of program varies depending on course of study.
College or University
- Students earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
- Four-year program but some students will take longer to complete their degree.
- Dormitories are ususally available.
- Varying degrees of support for students with language-based learning disabilities.
Military
- Students must take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. Results determine enlistment options.
- Must pass physical and medical examinations.
- Must complete basic training (additional training for specific jobs will take place after basic training).
- Branches include Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.
- Students entering after college enter as enlisted.
- Minimum of two-year commitment.
- Be sure to learn about military life and culture.
Employment
- Look for opportunities for future growth.
- Pay attention to salary, benefits, and health insurance.
- Can be combined with other options. (Work and attend school part time.)
- Ask employer about future opportunities for training and education.

With our post-secondary planning, we meet every student where they are and find programs that fit their needs and learning style so that when they leave Landmark, they are eager to start the next phase of their education and lives.
