History of
Landmark School
We opened our doors with 40 students and a small group of teachers on one campus in Prides Crossing, Massachusetts. Today we serve 470 students on two North Shore campuses with a faculty and staff of 320. One hundred percent of our graduates are accepted to college, and 94% attend, an accomplishment many of our students never imagined.
Landmark Celebrates 50 Years
Founded in 1971
Landmark School was founded in 1971 by visionary Dr. Charles “Chad” Drake to educate students whose reading, writing, spelling, and math skills did not match their superior thinking and problem-solving capacities. Most called these children dyslexic or learning disabled. Chad saw their promise, and called them bright and capable.

Reaching Beyond our Doors
Soon after the school was founded, we established the Landmark School Outreach Program to provide professional development consulting, workshops, and in-person and online courses for educators around the country and the globe so that they can share our proven, research-based methods and strategies with their students.
Today we are recognized internationally as a leader in the field of language-based learning disabilities.

Bob Broudo Retires
Bob met Dr. Charles Drake, Landmark's founder, while he was a student at Bates College, and worked in "pre-Landmark" summer programs held in Maine. Bob then became a founding faculty member of Landmark as the school opened on the present high school site in 1971.
At Landmark, his roles evolved from teacher, supervisor, department head, house parent, residential coordinator, founding Director of Outreach, and founding Director of the Prep Program, to Head of the High School. He was elected as Landmark's President and Headmaster in 1990 and will retire in June of 2022.
Bob received his undergraduate degree from Bates College and his Master's Degree from Boston University in Psycho-educational Training. Bob lives with his wife, Maida, and has four children. Emma, his youngest, graduated from Landmark School in 2011. Bob sits on several national and local non-profit boards and advisory boards and enjoys hiking, kayaking, and entertaining family and friends.
