EMS Summer Academics
The academic program builds language skills through small classes, highly trained teachers, customized curricula, and a daily one-to-one tutorial. It's a program designed specifically to meet each student's needs.
LANGUAGE ARTS TUTORIAL
The cornerstone of the Landmark approach, the daily one-to-one tutorial, offers each student an individualized tutorial program developed by an academic advisor and the tutor. With goals created for each student, this time is invaluable. Areas of instruction may include:
- Phonemic awareness
- Phonics
- Oral reading fluency
- Vocabulary
- Comprehension
- Written expression
LANGUAGE ARTS
Working in small groups, this writing class emphasizes the development from oral to written expression. Theme-based instruction is used to foster language and writing skills in a structured approach at the word, sentence, and paragraph levels. Graphic organizers and templates are used to improve students' abilities to organize and express information.
LANGUAGE STRUCTURE/LITERATURE
The Language Structure/Literature class has three components:
- Review of selected phonics and spelling patterns
- Discussion and recitation of poetry
- Evaluation and analysis of literature that is read or listened to
