Summer
Afternoon Activities

Landmark High School's Summer Afternoon Program runs from 3:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. every afternoon except Fridays. These fun and challenging activities are a great way to enjoy summer on the North Shore, relax, foster friendships, and build confidence.

Program Options

Below are examples of activities offered for the summer of 2025.

Digital Photography

Students will explore various modalities of taking photographs digitally. The course will focus on the art form of photography from composition and juxtaposition to the technicalities of this craft. The class will use the rambling Landmark campus and selected locations on the North Shore as their studio, and will produce a final show of their most noteworthy work at the end of the program.

Group Fitness

Students are treated to a customized workout. This very popular summer program is led by certified fitness instructors as well as a Landmark teacher with a wealth of experience working with students in this capacity. Participants will attend a variety of classes indoors and outside tailored to those who simply enjoy exercise, want to get in shape, or are preparing for an upcoming fall athletic season.

Marine Explorations

Students will spend their afternoons exploring the seashore and a wide variety of marine life while relaxing with new friends. Landmark’s Marine Explorations program is designed to provide discovery through field activities, where participants get their hands and feet wet and learn by doing. Students will investigate a range of local environments, including rocky shores, salt marshes, and sandy beaches through snorkeling and shoreline exploration. The class will also visit sites of maritime historic interest. Students should feel comfortable in and around water, but do not need to be strong swimmers. Students should have (or plan to purchase upon arrival at school), a mask, snorkel, and fins.

Sea Kayaking and Paddleboarding

Take advantage of the North Shore's beautiful coastline with daily guided kayak and paddleboarding tours out of Salem Harbor. Students will investigate a range of local destinations, challenge themselves, and build trust and friendships with fellow students. The program aims to help students develop a love of the ocean while developing a safe environment for them to learn new skills or fine tune existing ones. Students should feel comfortable in and around water, but do not need to have kayaking or paddleboarding experience.

Visual Arts

Students will express their creativity through the visual arts in this challenging program offered in our on-campus art studio. They will have the opportunity to explore a variety of both 2D and 3D media art in depth. This is an excellent opportunity for both beginning art students and those interested in pursuing art beyond high school.

STEAM (New for Summer 2025!)

Students of any skill level can explore and develop their abilities in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math).  Students will work within the pre-engineering classroom, or "maker-space," to complete projects either of the instructor’s design or their own. The theme will be summer toys—think super soakers, etc!  The primary focus will be problem solving and critical thinking.

Performing Arts (New for Summer 2025!)

Student interests will drive this activity!  After surveying students, areas of focus will be determined and likely a mix of production and performance.  Students can identify interests related to Dance, Music, Theater, and Technical Theater.  They will explore their creativity in Landmark School’s Performing Arts Center. Students will get first-hand experience participating in the many areas of performing arts throughout the summer.
