Community Service All Stars
May 30th, 2023
Last week, Reverend Ferguson recognized five students as Community Service All-Stars. A Community Service All-Star is someone who has gone above and beyond in their involvement in community service and has completed 50 hours or more of community service.
Mitchell G.
92 hours
Mitchell is no stranger to any of us. Editor of the popular and much enjoyed “Positivity News,” Mitchell
brightens up our day. And he is no stranger to community service either. Over the course of the school
year, he has been involved with a food pantry near his home called “Harvest on the Vine.” In addition, he
has been involved with the International Club, “Best Buddies International” which pairs students with
special needs kids, Beverly Bootstraps, raking leaves for the elderly, helping stage tech as well as beach
and campus clean-up. Mitchell is certainly someone who embodies a heart for community service.
Please join me in congratulating Mitchell G.
Derek C.
80 hours
While most of our students are in the cafeteria getting their milk break snacks, one can always find Derek down at the Student Store sorting through the parcels and putting them out for students to pick up. He enjoys community service and has been involved in a number of opportunities. He helped with the new student orientation in September, Life Bridge Homeless Shelter, the International Club, the Blood Drive, and a number of times he has helped with the Landmark Open House. Please join me in congratulating Derek C. for all his good work.
Suly R.
55 hours
Our west coast transplant Suly is a force to be reckoned with. She has so much positive energy and much of it has been channeled into community service. My introduction to her came last fall when I found out that she and her brothers ran an organization called Manos de Esperanza which means Hands of Esperanza. They collected school supplies and clothing for children in impoverished neighborhoods. So I knew she had a heart for community service. Then she brought that energy here to the 5K, electronic recycling, Beverly Children’s Learning Center where she worked all winter and spring, shoveling snow, the International Club, and making meals at Life Bridge Homeless Shelter. Please congratulate Suly with me, a young lady who truly has a heart for community service.
Dylan A.
55 hours
If you know Dylan, you know what a terrific young man he is. He is polite, kind, hard working, and involved. It has been a pleasure watching him grow and mature over the years, and it is my pleasure to also recognize him as one of our Community Service All-Stars. I’d mentioned that Dylan was involved, and he has been. Dylan helped with the new student orientation at the beginning of the school year, the 5K, he has pitched in and helped shovel snow, helped with the open house, Parent’s Day, fundraisers and making cards for cancer patients with Mrs. O. He was also a regular at the YMCA this winter, helping kids learn how to swim. Please join me in congratulating Dylan A.
Max A.
Max is one of those people that is very active outside of Landmark School. Unlike other Community Service All Stars, Max is not one who has completed 50 hours or more, at least not in the way we would typically see it. We want to recognize Max as a Community Service All-Star because of the countless hours reflected in his thoughtfulness and resulting generosity toward our school. Max is blessed in many ways that most of us are not, but he shares that blessing with us because we are near to his heart. So please congratulate, (even thank Max), not for what we’ve seen him do, but for things he’s done that we don’t see.
