Landmark Students Take College-Level Classes at Endicott, Earn College Credit
April 25th, 2024
A group of Landmark students were hand-selected by teachers to participate in a pilot program with Endicott College, where high school students can take college-level classes and receive college credit. This mature group of students enrolled in the Van Loan program, which offers one three-credit course every seven weeks. Students were able to choose from three courses: The Salem Witch Trial, Terrorism Studies, and Foundations of Mindfulness (Abby L. ‘25 chose to enroll in all three!). Landmark students who participated in the program received their own college IDs and were invited to also use the Endicott library, gym, and other facilities.
On Thursday morning, these students gathered together in the Murphy Center Great Hall for a small celebration of their accomplishments. Mr. Rose spoke about the program and how impressed he was with all of the students who participated—they supported each other when they found themselves struggling and worked together as mature classmates to finish out the seven-week courses. Mr. Christopher Murphy, who teaches at Endicott in addition to Landmark School, asked students one by one what they learned from their experience at Endicott, and each student had something positive to say: “I learned the differences between high school classes and college classes,” “I learned that college classes actually aren’t that scary,” and “I learned how to organize my time better.” This pilot program was so successful that Josh Clark, Landmark’s Head of School, is hoping to expand on this program and offer college-level classes to more high school students in the future.
A huge congratulations for all of their hard work goes out to Kendall A. ‘25, Maggie A. ‘25, James B. ‘25, Anders I. ‘25, Mariel J. ‘24, Abby L. ‘25, Eddie P. ‘24, Christina S. ‘25, Lily V. ‘24, Hayden L. ‘25, and Taylor N. ‘25.
