Pursuing the Practical Arts

May 6th, 2024

Landmark School's Transition and Guidance Department has always been ahead of the national trend of high school students' increased interest in pursuing training in the trades or other forms of job preparation outside of the four-year college path. Kelly Scimone, current guidance counselor and next year's department head said, "Our Post-Secondary Fair featured seven exhibitors from alternative offerings and attendees were very interested in the programs they represented."

Recently, two members of the guidance team brought students to an open house at the New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. NEIT prides itself on specializing in hands-on learning and offers certificate programs, associate and bachelor degrees in diverse fields like traditional trades and technology programs, and subjects such as criminal justice, vet tech, nursing, cybersecurity, and video game design. NEIT also offers students the opportunity to stay on campus in their state-of-the-art residence hall and has competitive athletics teams.
