Becoming an Upstander

November 7th, 2024

In early November, high school students participated in a meaningful activity to understand the impact of harmful comments and practice being an upstander and intervene in support of Landmark’s values (Exploration, Character, Empowerment), when appropriate.

They began by creating identity webs, reflecting on their own unique experiences. Then, students explored what it means to be an upstander—someone who speaks up and takes action when witnessing harm. With guidance from school leaders, they reviewed examples of challenging situations and practiced responding with phrases like “that’s not ok” to support Landmark's values of Exploration, Character, and Empowerment.
