EMS Track Event

EMS Track Take the Starting Line
Since our running events got rained out last week, this was the first chance to see what our runners would do. The 100 Meter race was the first in the line up. No matter how many heats there are, it’s the top three fastest times that score. We had 9 athletes run this event and Nuala took 3rd while Becca took first place overall with a time of 16.02. It was so fun to watch. On the boy's side, Luke was like a freight train placing first overall with a time of 15.90. Way to go 100 Meter sprinters!
The next sprinting race was the 200 Meter run. Once again, Becca was the fastest runner in this event running 33.90 to capture her third 1st place finish of the meet. She is unstoppable! On the boys side, Austin placed 3rd overall, and for his third time, Luke took home another 1st place victory with a time of 33.32.
The third longest race is the 400 Meter run and we had Finley and Lydia step up to the starting line. Finley ran a great race with a time of 1:33 to take 4th place overall and Lydia ran a 2:20 to capture 3rd overall. It was a tough race but Lydia never gave up and our team cheered both Finley and Lydia on to the finish.
The 800 Meter race was exciting to watch. All three Landmark runners placed in the top three spots to score points for our team. Lillian knew that we needed to have someone represent the girls and she ran what was probably the longest race of her life, but was able to pull off a 3rd place overall. For the boys, cross country star Liam placed 2nd and our 1st place runner Braden made it look easy as he crossed the finish line with a time of 3:20. All very exciting to watch.
The longest race of the afternoon was the mile run. Our three Landmark boys swept the podium taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Braden looked like he was shot out of a cannon on his first lap but then settled in and finished with a time of 7:05. Liam was super fast with a time of 8:46. Mimmo recalled his days of cross country and ran a 10:21.
The most exciting part of the meet is always the final event. The Relay Race. In the 4 x 200 Meter Relay, 4 runners get together to run 200 meters each, in this case, one lap of the track. Finley, Liam, Luke, and Braden were ready to take the other teams on. They captured 1st place with a speedy time of 2:28. The girls were nervous and didn’t know if they had it in themselves to race the event but I had all of the confidence in the world that they would succeed. And succeed they did! Gemma, Linnea, Becca, Nuala ran a 2:33 to place first overall for the girls.
What a thrill it is to coach this team this season. A special thank you to all of the spectators/cheerleaders. Thanks to Coaches Hill and Walfield for helping to make things run smoothly. I can’t wait until we host our upcoming meet at Gordon. There will be some fast runners on the college track which I’m sure will amaze all of us. Until that time…
