L-Train Stops at EMS

April 15th, 2025

After weeks of laying the track, elementary students packed their suitcases (backpacks), grabbed their hand-drawn carry-on bags, and eagerly climbed aboard the Landmark EMS L-Train. The L-Train was the culmination of our elementary social thinking program—a full-steam-ahead, on-campus journey with interactive stops where students put their year-long learning into motion. With whistles blowing and tickets scanning, students practiced essential skills like reading the room, flexible thinking, time and place, and more.

Before departure, each student visited the ticket office, to “purchase” their ID card and official travel pass—complete with their photo, signature, and scheduled itinerary of stops. Once on board, the L-Train made stops at a zoo, movie theater, museum, bookstore, and the bustling food court junction. Faculty members transformed into a full railway crew—station creation leaders, ticket sellers, train conductors, food court vendors, photographers, and even resident authors—ensuring this educational trip stayed on track.

We were amazed by our students' creativity, from the stations they dreamed up to the way they demonstrated their social and emotional skills at every stop along the line. Thank you to our creative and talented teachers for always going above and beyond and make learning interactive, impactful, and fun.

Thank you, Ms. Polvinen for crafting this article.
