EMS Celebrates Dyslexia Awareness Month

October 18th, 2024

In honor of Dyslexia Awareness Month, Landmark’s Elementary•Middle School hosted several initiatives to increase understanding and support for individuals with dyslexia.

On Thursday, October 17, students were encouraged to wear red as part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness for the learning difference that affects one in five people. Additionally, Mrs. Ann Andrew secured the 2024 Dyslexia Awareness Proclamation from the Governor, with the community posing with it during House meetings to show solidarity.

A third event, the "Dyslexia Rocks" initiative had students painting rocks to celebrate dyslexia. This follows the success of last year's contest, where a Landmark student won first place.

New as of this year, 3rd grader Lilly H., along with Mrs. Sylvester and her tutor Ms. Kesner, designed a Dyslexia Awareness display in the EMS library. This display features books about dyslexia and works written by dyslexic authors.
